Portal of the "Schaffnerei" (Administration)

The door frame of the private property at Zuckerberg 26 dates back to 1612, when Ingelheim was under Electoral Palatinate rule. The door frame is no longer in its original location, but probably belonged to the “Schaffnerei” (Administration), which was built in the area of the former Aula regia (Throne Hall). The “Schaffnerei” was the seat of the government administrator who represented the interests of the Electoral Palatinate in Ingelheim. Ingelheim’s donations to the Electoral Palatinate also included columns from the medieval imperial palace, which were transported to Heidelberg and Oppenheim, among other places. They still adorn prestigious places there today. The lintel made of red sandstone is richly decorated. At its centre is a double-headed eagle, the heraldic animal of the Holy Roman Empire.
